It's no surprise that the U.S. is increasingly diverse. According to the 2010 Census, 36.3% of the population reported belonging to one or more non-white races or ethnicities. That includes 50.5 million Hispanics, 38.9 million Americans of African or Caribbean descent, 15.2 million Asians, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders. In fact, it is the multicultural population that contributed that vast majority of total population growth in the last decade. The Hispanic population alone accounted for more than half of the growth in the total population the United States between 2000 and 2010.
Multicultural populations also lead in purchasing power growth. Hispanic purchasing power increased two-fold between 2000 and 2009 to $978.4 billion. Black buying power grew 54.3% to $910.4 billion, while the Asian figure grew 89.3% to $508.b billion in the same period.
